The popular tourist town of Torremolinos lies west of the city of Malaga. A beautiful beach resort on the southern coastline of Spain. This is one of the many top tourist towns along the Mediterranean coastal area of the Costa del Sol.

This area is particularly popular with British and Irish expatriates. Torremolinos became the first town on the Costa del Sol to undergo tourism development in the late 1950’s.
This town was a poor fishing village like it’s neighbour Benalmádena which is lies to the west. Torremolinos is now one of the most populated towns on the southern coastline. The population here has risen to 70,000 inhabitants in recent years.
These numbers swell in the summer months with tourism. Millions visit this area every year to enjoy the fantastic weather on offer. The vibrant nightlife and golden beaches are more reasons to pay this town a visit.
The literal translation for this town is “Tower of the Mills”. Torremolinos got it’s name from the many water mills that littered the area. These mills were introduced under the Moorish rule of Spain. There is only one surviving mill. Molino de Inca or “Inca Mill” in English, this mill now forms part of a restaurant.

The promenade stretches some 7 km all the way to Benalmadena. This is a great way to take in the local sites in and around Torremolinos.

Beaches in Torremolinos
Torremolinos has some excellent sandy beaches along it’s 7 km coastline. There are six beaches in all but only four main beaches. Playa El Bajondillo is the most popular beach in the area. This beach stretches for 1100 metres and is accessible from Calle San Miguel in the centre of town.
Playa La Carihuela lies to west of the town close to neighbouring town of Benalmádena. The promenade from Playa El Bajondillo leads to this super sandy beach.
Playamar Beach is the best for water sports in the area. This is a popular location for parasailing, paddle boarding and kayaking. Playamar is quite picturesque and lined with palm trees. These treesa allow a little shade and respite from the hot sun.
Playa Los Alamos is the most eastern of the beaches in Torremolinos and the closest to Malaga. This beach is also the most secluded if you prefer to spend your day away from the crowds.
Nightlife in Torremolinos
Torremolinos was somewhere your went for package beach holidays. This area has now evolved and offers some of the best nightlife on the Costa del Sol.
Most of the best bars and all night clubs can be found on Calle San Miguel. This street runs though the centre of the town. The area referred to as La Nogalera or “Walnut Grove” roughly translated into English.
Here you can find popular clubs such as Voltage, Pipers Atrevate, The Palladium and many more. It’s worth mentioning that La Nogalera is also a popular location with the gay scene. This suburb attracts lots of revelers from all over Andalucia and the Costa del Sol.
Aqualand is the biggest water parks on the Costa del Sol and a great way to spend a day out with the whole family. Here you can experience a large range of adrenaline-fuelled water rides. These include Kamikaze, Black Hole, Rapids and Boomerang.
This popular aqua park has plenty of other rides for the younger members of the family. There are also several kids areas. Tickets are available either online or at the aqua park. Some discounts offered for online purchases. Various tickets are available such as day passes, family tickets and group tickets.
Like most water parks, Aqualand is a seasonal attraction. This water park is usually open from late May until early October. Opening times are from 11am – 6pm, July and August the park is open until 7pm.
