Benicàssim is a popular seaside resort in the Spanish province of Castellón. Lying on the sun drenched shores of the Costa del Azahar, the resort is home to 6 kilometres of pristine Blue Flag beaches. Backed by the Desert de les Palmes mountain range, its beaches are protected from the north wind and attract a faithful following of sun worshippers each year.
Quite unusual for a seaside resort, the beaches are backed by residential areas with the actual town centre behind these. Whatever the reason for this, Benicàssim is a pleasure to visit. The town has ample services, shops, boutiques, supermarkets, bars and restaurants.
There is no shortage of fun in the sun when visiting the resort, where thrill seekers can roar around the go-kart track or swoosh down the exciting slides at Aquarama Water Park. Those worried about gaining excess holiday calories can do a few laps in the town’s public swimming pool, visit the sports complex or enjoy a few challenging rounds of golf.
The resort’s 6 kilometres of coastline is made up of 5 golden sand beaches which are all easily accessed. Backed by a promenade where swimmers and sunbathers can enjoy refreshments in a selection of bars, the beaches are all separated by stone breakwaters. These are great to snorkel around but just bear in mind they’re also favoured by local fishermen. Visitors can expect good beach facilities and a variety of water activities.
Benicàssim FIB International Music Festival
Now comes the really fun part. In July each year the town’s usual population of around 18,000 residents explodes to the tune of the FIB (Festival Internacional de Benicàssim). This fantastic music festival can be compared to England’s famous Glastonbury. So, forget the mud and wellie boots and slap on the sunscreen for 4 days and nights of music mayhem.
Music Festival Artists & Line up 2017
Each year the line up for Benicàssim Music Festival just seems to get better, and 2017 is no exception. Aside from dozens of lesser known bands, solo artists and DJ’s, this year festival goers can party to the sounds of some music legends. Topping the bill are Kasabian, Peter Doherty, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, The Jesus And Mary Chain and Liam Gallagher.
Fib Stages & Shop
You have to take your hat off to the organisers of such a huge event, as the logistics alone must be a nightmare. But in true FIB spirit they manage to pull it off year after year and I’m sure the lack of rain and mud certainly helps. Revellers can expect 3 main stages, VIP areas, an official FIB shop, market stalls and well needed rest areas. In addition to this there are various car parks, ablutions, lockers, first aid points and a great choice of bars and eateries.
Due to the intense heat in July, many visitors to Festival Internacional Benicàssim book well in advance for hotel and guest house rooms with blessed air conditioning. The majority though prefer to enjoy true festival spirit by staying in one of the 3 campsites which are nearly as well equipped and organised as the festival. The most popular, which is free to holders of a 4 day ticket and right next to the festival grounds, is the lively Campfest.
